QuicKutz Silhouette Halloween Cards & free download

Mary has created this incredible diecut file and is sharing it with everyone for free on her blog here. Head on over there to download and get started creating with your Silhouette! The cool thing about thisproject is that you can use the owl and frame together, or the frame is so pretty I am thinking of removing the owl just to use that scrolly type frame on a card or scrapbook page layout. So amazing. Thanks Mary for sharing your work with us!

I am loving this QuicKutz Christmas Tree, such a beautiful project and it sounds really simple. It was posted at twopeas by juls2000. She painted the tree and decorated it with Quickutz garland, snowflakes and candy. Gorgeous and so festive!!

New QuicKutz Political Shape Dies

New QuicKutz Political Shape Dies - Republican Elephant, Democrat Donkey, and Vote Checkbox

Just in time for the contentious 2008 election season, QuicKutz has released brand new political shape dies. These dies are 2×2 and work with all the QuicKutz die cut machines (except the Silhouette which is digital). At first glance I wasn’t sure how to use these dies but once I thought about it the ideas started flowing. Our political ideas and philosophies are a big part of us, why not scrap them? Or use the elephant and donkey on debate night party invitations and decor. But what I REALLY want to do, is use that checkmark & box on a layout about my ever growing to-do list!

Quickutz Silhouette Free Download: awareness ribbon

QuicKutz is offering this free awareness ribbon gsd download.  They also say their vinyl will stick to cars so it would be a cool way to make an inexpensive car cling awareness ribbon in any color you choose for whatever your particular issue is.  Make a bunch if you have lots of awareness to proclaim!  I might put it in side the car though (on the back window), somehow I’m not sure the vinyl would hold up to the wear and tear of an outdoor climate.

How to Create gsd files in Photoshop for cutting with the QuicKutz Silhouette

If you’re wondering how to merge letters into one cutting file, or create

1.  Download Inkscape here (it’s free!)

2. Create a document in Photoshop, Photoshop Elements, or similar graphic editing program.  If you are typing a word or using multiple layers, flatten the image before continuing.  Save your image as a .bmp file.

3. In Inkscape, import your .bmp file (click on File, Import).  Resize if necessary by positioning your mouse over one of the corners (hold down the CTRL key if you want to keep the proportions the same).

4. When you have the image at the proper size,go to Outline mode (click on View, Display mode, Outline).

5.  Click Path, then Trace bitmap to make an outline of your image.  You can choose from several options  for colors depending on what you want.  Now click OK and your outline appears.

6. Save the document (File, Save As) as a .svg file.  This will allow you to return to this document for editing.  Then save your file in .dfx format – that’s what you need for the Silhouette.  Save it to a location on your computer that it will be easy to find when you are in the Robo Master Software.

7. Open ROBO master and import your new .dfx file (File, Load DFX).  Select your newly imported file and click open.

8. Resize/reposition as necessary, and now you’re ready to cut out the image with your QuicKutz Silhouette Digital Craft Cutter!

Have fun and enjoy creating new projects with your Silhouette!!
